The Joy Formidable

Ever heard of Joy Formidable?  They were just in town last week and performed at the Cosmo for Indie Sessions.  If you haven't had a chance to check out the free performances, it's definitely a must!  Indie Sessions are non-ticketed / complimentary poolside concerts featuring original indie artists at one of the best venues in Las Vegas (in my opinion).  Make sure to take a moment and check out upcoming performances both ticketed and non-ticketed.  Learn more about the Welsh trio and check out some of their music for yourself and if you ever get an opportunity to watch a live performance, I definitely would recommend it!
Here's a few photos I snapped while at Studio X and the Blvd. Pool for their Las Vegas concert debut:

Sweet Ruby Jane Confections

New to the Las Vegas area:  Don't forget to check out Sweet Ruby Jane Confections located at 8975 S. Eastern Ave. right next to the Starbucks.  Just before opening day, my girlfriend and I helped out with shooting some macro photography of their tasty treats (some photos below).  It's hard to choose, but if I had to pick a favorite; I'd have to say Wyatt's Wacky Pretzel Sticks!  Thank you to everyone at Sweet Ruby Jane!  It was a pleasure working with you all.  Be sure to add them to your Facebook for specials and promotions.  Here's the link to their official website: Sweet Ruby Jane Confections.  Sweet Ruby Jane will also be caring baked goods in the near future.  Make sure to check it out and  tell them that I sent you!

Welcome to my Blog

Hello,
A big thank you for stopping by my new blog page!  I'm new to the blogosphere and am excited to get everything up and running.  For those who do not know me, my name is Don Guzman.  I am a self-taught freelance photographer based out of Las Vegas, Nevada.  Photography for me, started off as a class that I initially took at college as a Micky Mouse course, thinking I could get an easy A and boost up my GPA.  Needless to say I didn't put much effort into the class and ended up barely passing.  I did however, learn enough to peak my interest in this newly discovered artform.  When I finally decided to take a few photography classes on a more serious level, my school announced that the entire photography department was going to go digital and the darkroom would soon be extinct.  At that point in time, I decided that I'd stick to film and just teach myself since I had recently purchased the equipment.  Then one year, after receiving an awesome tax return, I decided to give digital a shot.  I ended up buying a Canon Rebel XT.  Now, 6 years later and I'm still taking photos with a Canon. I've upgraded a bit since then, but have stuck it out with a Canon DSLR.  For those using Nikon (or any other brand for that matter), nothing against it, but I just grew accustomed to Canon's button configuration and set up.

Now that you know a little about how I got into Photography, what to expect from my blog:  I plan to use this blog so those interested can join me on my photographic adventures.  I'll throw in some random stuff here and there, such as reviewing a restaurant that I may stumble upon or a new movie that I think is worth a mention.  I'm always open to constructive feed back and commentary.  Just keep in mind that I am self-taught so sometimes my methods or approach may come off as archaic or awkward.  Everyone has their own approach to photography, as well as their own techniques.  Just like in Photoshop, there is always more than one way to do something.  Thanks again for taking a moment to check out my blog.  My work can be seen on my webpage at: www.DonGuzmanPhotography.com. (flash-based website).  I'm looking forward to working with you in the near future!
